A fresh take on the browser

QUOTE
On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple. To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff -- the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go.

They're calling all other browsers "old" on the comic sketches.. (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Will this become another browser to place in the list of nightmare for web designers? (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Hi Nuno (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ,

Good Point! Mind you, would be tempted to give it a go if a "portable version" was introduced?

Regards & Respect,

ispy (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif)

P.S. have just managed to grab a copy of "Portable IE7" have always resisted installing IE7 as once installed you cannot go back! However the portable version has the advantage of un-installability. Try it if you like it, ditch it if you don't approach!

I can hears the "Boo's & hisses" building from the firefox/opera fraternity so I think I will make a sharp exit, before the metaphorical rotten tomatoes, eggs & cabbage are incoming LOL!

CYA,

ispy (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Update (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ,

A bit of Google Chrome bashing, its new so what do we get for our 46Mb's it free (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-chrome-communication/ (Worth a read but the author is you guessed it Google!)
- no adblocker, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- no extensions, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- installs into Documents & Settings, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- no clean installer to download (instead you've got downloader which unpacks proper files three times AFAIR), (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- adds autostart / scheduler entries for google updater, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- no bookmarks management (you can import easily but for deleting you have to RMB [Right mouse button] click each entry in bookmarks menu), (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- no Google bookmarks import(!) (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- requires administrative priviledges for debugging purposes, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- built-in dictionaries have spelling errors (!), (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
- poor number of options. (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)

Reported on other boards:
- problems with Java applets, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/doh7.gif)
- problems with non-standard devices (i.e. multimedia keyboards), (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/happy22.gif)
- problems with ACID tests (not even A2 passed), (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)
- not worikng with GridMove, (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/stretcher.gif)

Ummm all within a 46Mb footprint (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/help.gif)

Excessive use of smileys alert Sorry!

"Google’s new browser will give you their web and email services, photo processing, mapping, office applications that will run in said browser and will make you a cup of tea. This is all paid for by personally-directed text ads in your tea leaves, based on analysing a DNA sample taken when you sip the tea."

Seems a bit bloated. I would expect a smaller size.

Chrome doesn't like to be used in PE though it installs without errors.
