Hi Jack fan,

Around here on boot land you're not considered a troll until proof otherwise.. laugh.gif

Welcome to our community, it's a good opportunity to learn how to write english and talk with people from other countries.

If you wish, also drop a visit on our forum section in chinese language to say "hi": http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showforum=44

It would be nice to see that section a bit more active.

Hope to see you more often around our forum, take care!

I like Ubuntu as a linux platform. Hardware support is a breeze compared to the other options and is quite user friendly when comes to grab new apps.

Guess I've got really addicted to apt-get install instead of browsing and manually installing things around like in Windows or Mac OS.

I don't like watching this Flash war as well. If it makes you feel any better, it's not just flash that they are giving a bad time.

It's also a similar scenario for Java where they won't upgrade the internal Java that comes available by default with OSX to version 1.6 since 2007 and it's a real headache for those who want to create cross platform applications since the upgrade on OSX is a real pain.

Watching this type of behavior makes all the bad things we can blame on Microsoft look a bit less evil.

----------------

As for going cybernetic I'm not so sure, I like enjoying some quality time without being connected to a network.. cheers.gif

Hi,

I guess we are all hackers by nature around here, we do strive to work on tools that overcome limitations using only legal methods.

It's not the easy path but it's a very good intellectual challenge and the good part is that your work can be made available to the public without fear of censorship.

Hope you have fun around here, welcome to Boot Land!

eheh.. now this is what I call aggressive marketing.

That tablet is really awful to type on the virtual keyboard but on the other hand you won't have much work to write short sentences on facebook like "lol" or play farmville so he might also have a good point there.

Yes, cdob is correct. We have a rule of thumb for not supporting warez around the forums.

If you really want to learn how to solve the issue you mention and perhaps creating an even better CD in a fully legal way, then I'd seriously recommend that you try a project like LiveXP - http://winbuilder.net/download.php?view.35

Not only it should provide out-of-the-box support for your NIC but it should be fairly easy to build - just unpack the files to a folder, fire up winbuilder and point to place where your XP install files can be found. No other steps needed to get a working ISO this way.

The LiveXP forum can be found here in case you have any other questions:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showforum=52

You can also add a lot of software to your boot CD and choose what to include or not.

Good luck, I really hope LiveXP can get your NIC working.

Or you can also ask THE finder himself.

boot-land.net and winbuilder.net subdomains are being moved to new server!

Hi,

All subdomains like http://lancelot.boot-land.net that are hosted at boot-land.net and winbuilder.net are in the process of being transferred to the new server that is also powering the boot land forums.

In the meanwhile, please refrain from uploading or changing your files as these changes might get lost (left on the old server) if they were made today.

This means that all FTP accounts that are used to upload files will no longer be valid once the transfer is complete.

For safety reasons, the FTP service on the new server will only be made available to their respective owners on request by personal email to prevent security risks.

Per request it is also possible to directly link your subdomain to a dropbox shared folder and this way the owner can edit directly the files that are available on the web service without requiring FTP access.

A mass notice to all members will follow once the transfer is complete.

Hi Guys,

We already maxed out the intended number of referrals to get the bonus 8Gb.

QUOTE
Once the account is open how does it work for Bootland?

It's very simple, I just linked the boot land folder where our site is placed with dropbox.

Now, if the server goes down for some strange reason. I only need to install dropbox onto some other server and the site continues to run from there without any loses.

Also, for those that have sub domains hosted on boot land and winbuilder, it should be possible to replace FTP and let the subdomain owners edit their websites directly from their desktop while keeping themselves an always updated backup of their files on their own machines.

Someone also wrote an App that mounts it in windows, so something could prob be written for linux as well..

It's a risk. Dropbox has a well tested tool for ubuntu that integrated really nice.

QUOTE
The Signature account does offer the features you mentioned
and is cheaper than Dropbox - see below

Yes, but the goal is keeping everything free from costs for as long as possible. smile.gif

50Gb is a good suggestion for big periodic backups that are made on static basis but in overall when looking at adrive and dropbox, I still see the later as the way to get the most advantages for free and better shape to remain themselves in business for a long time.

As for skydrive, it would always be a conflicting relationship with MS to keep away all the linux hacks from working. It's wiser to choose a solution that has no issues in embracing and supporting other OS platforms.

It's still my favorite way to manage PXE boot images with no rival to match it's ease of use.

Yes, adrive seems like a really cool way to get 50Gb but they offer no integration with other OS's in the free plan nor backup history in case things go wrong.

Dropbox still beats them in those points.

Nevertheless, I'll keep it in mind for bulk storage or extra location to keep files as well. (I hope they allow FTP upload).

Just to let people know: we have reached the max number of referrals, no more signups are needed. cheers.gif

QUOTE
I have some questions about!:

1)-Ours "machines" must be on 24 hours by day?

No. Each person that signs up gets an individual account.

You can use your computer without any changes. The storage gets synchronized when you get online. As far as boot land is concerned: you can even stop using dropbox right after installing it once and uninstalling right away.

QUOTE
2)-We must pay to have drop box or pay to service?

It's completely free but you're restricted to 2Gb. You can upgrade to 50Gb but it will cost 9 USD per month.

Using referrals you get 250 Mb per each person that follow your link to try out dropbox to a max of 8 GB.

QUOTE
3)-Ours internet connections can be dial up (slow, As the mine is)?

Sure, mine is also dial up. You only spend bandwidth when files are changed on your disk, if you don't touch them, no bandwidth is used.

QUOTE
4)-How many disk space is needded, (just 250-MB)?

For you to use dropbox I'd recommend you keep 2Gb free on your disk but this all depends on the files that you put there.

QUOTE
hmm I see you already reached the 8GB bonus limit

Yes, all done but you can still try dropbox for the fun of it. It's really handy.
