I get the Ubuntu working on the OLPC, using the compressed files method.
Then I test, whether it is possible to unzip the OLPCFile.tar.bz2
file to a Fat32 filesystem on a USB device. This does not work.
Even if you use tar -jxf or 7-Zip, there are some files in OLPCFile.tar.bz2, that seem to be encrypted and cant be copied or unzipped to a Fat32 partition, for example the file bzcmp in folder bin/ .
So I have some questions: Is it possible, to build a working OLPCFile.tar.bz2 with Qemu, that sits on a Fat32 partition?
Is it possible with the Forthcompiler in the Open Firmware to do a direkt boot to a Fat32 filesystem? The question is not answered yet. There is no problem for Open Firmware, to detect a Fat32 filesystem.
But I always get the message "Unrecognized program format" or a black screen if I test to boot with any *.img build from a fat32 partition from it.
I tried it also with grub4dos, syslinux, grub, kexec, always the same.
I hear, that Microsoft integrates a Linux partition on its installations CD for XP on the OLPC. Do you have any more information on this?
Direct CD boot with an USB CDROM (Iso 9660) seems possible with
boot cdrom:\(path to image)
at the command line of the Forth Interpreter, because
is answered from Open Firmware with "iso9660-file-system" .
Nice to hear from you

here is the promised XP SP1, which files can simple be copied on a NTFS compressed partition that is set activ. Uncompress only ntldr after that. Voila (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) .
It contains only original XP SP1 files and a renamed minlogon to winlogon from Windows Embedded.
The whole registry is made by hand. >It is the full commandline cmd.exe, not based on WinPE, just full XP. I never saw something like before. Nice to hear from you
PS: At the moment, only IDE harddisks are supported with Fat, Fat32 and NTFS.
The boottime is 1 second (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .
But this is a nice project, to build XP from single pieces, so I will integrate network, SATA and so on.
now it works also on SATA harddisks. It works on any compi... (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/jump.gif) .
