I went around this link:
I think that 'KExec-Loader" is serious enough as an alternative to be mentioned.

I'm new on this forum and equally to its topic.
My CMOS Setup utility doesn't have any USB Boot
feature, the 'PLoP' bootable diskette works if used
with USB FlashDrives but it fails as well for my USB
memory card readers. I've managed to access SD
cards under DOS after some EMM386 compatibility
issues were finally dealt with, i'm now able to run
'LinLD' (it was OKay from the start) or 'GrUB4DOS'
when run from my diskette. 'Slax' does boot and
appears to be functionning normally if launched via
its '\BOOT\DOS\SLAX.BAT' DOS command file (it
is included on the LiveCD) so far. Unfortunately, i
find it unconvenient to be limited to 'LinLD' because
i wish to customize the LiveCD's 'SysLinux' boot-
time menu directly from the SD memory card... My
goal is to have a boot method which is HardWare
independant and works with any USB drive...
It would be more suitable for me if i were able to
benefit from the availability of 'LinLD' or even of
'GrUB4DOS', eventually. So, is it possible to boot
from DOS and end up on the SD card booting 'Slax'
Linux thru its 'SysLinux' menu as if it were a CD?...
