I guess it will take pressure from actual users like yourself of VistaPE to get those variables defined. My suggestion was at the request of only one user, but hopefully this idea of cross-project support of "basic" variables will catch on.
What about WinBuilder demands certain variables (Like currently %Source%) and refuses to work if the variables are not defined?

The variables in question, though, are nativeEx-based project variables and as such are not essential/basic for VistaPE. So it may not be appropriate to have them hard-coded as essential in WB.

The general usefulness of defining the variables in VistaPE so as to have a greater range of scripts portable between projects was noticed by DaveXP. Now JonF also senses a need say for either %GlobalTemplates% or %ProjectTemplates% in VistaPE.

In my opinion, then, such variables should be left for an individual project to define and it is up to the VistaPE developers whether this projects has them defined or not. Like it's been pointed out, in the absence of a project having the variables defined, JonF could have his particular script define them.

Regards,
Galapo.

(Somebody posted a file of variables and which projects supported them. I thought I saved it but I didn't, and now I can't find it).

Are you looking for this file?

Your idea is a good one, but where should I put files intended to be kept from run to run?

%Temp% is right out. By definition it's not a place for putting files that are supposed to be kept. And it doesn't even exist in VistaPE.

%Workbench% does not exist in VistaPE, so that's no good either.

Interesting, didn't knew that those two directories do not exist in VistaPE project.

Since those files don't seem to be downloaded but extracted files, i would go with a custom folder, if no solution exist yet and since you write quite a few scripts, i would bet that it will catch on! thumbsup.gif

%GlobalTemplates% or %ProjectTemplates%

My english seems to off today, but isn't a template something completely different? %GlobalCache% or %ProjectCache% sounds like a better description for the intended use. confused1.gif

@MedEvil
Rereading JonF's post, you're probably correct.

Having our time again, %GlobalTemplates% could be called %GlobalStore% or %GlobalStorage% and %ProjectTemplates% called %ProjectStore% or %ProjectStorage%.

Galapo.
