I have a bootable copy of ShadowProtect Desktop cd and iso image which is winPE based drive backup software.
I've also got installation files for installing it on windows xp/vista

What I want is to either boot this from a usb OR to install the program on a windows xp usb
this way I can recover my hard drive straight from a bootable usb.

I have already tried copying the files from the cd to the usb but it doesn't work

Can somebody please help me?
I have the iso file for cd if needed

thanks

I'm afraid it will take a few more steps than that to make things work but it is a quite straight forward process if you read the instructions properly.

Try out the ETBoot project: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=3890

Should provide a fully working XP running from USB drive to which you can install your programs.

--------

Also, I advice to use the forum search tool. USB boot has been discussed so many times in so many different ways that you're bound to find whatever you need in one of those posts, we even have a section on this forum dedicated to this sort of boot: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showforum=71

This might all seem a bit complicated at first, but do try to read as much as possible. Print to paper the instructions that best suit what you need and try to learn as much as possible regarding what you need to do in order to successfully boot from USB in the first place and then run windows from the pendisk.

There is a lot of info on this forum and other members might also help if you get stuck on any step along your learning path.

Good luck with your goals.

Thank you for your help

but the ETBoot project is for a cd, I want to boot from a usb...
Is there any way that I can convert the bootable ShadowProtect Desktop cd image into a bootable usb?
or alternatively, I can boot xp from a usb and install the program...
What is the easiest way of doing this?

Thanks again

You can use the process described there to create a bootable image that is agnostic from the motherboard, both share a lot of common steps if you look closer.

Then use the forum search function to find more posts related to boot full XP from USB, otherwise we'll just be repeating what has already been said and written before. Please look on the previous topics.
