Here's a Firefox 3.0.3 script. I would really appreciate feedback from anyone using it in something other than VistaPE.

It requires a writable %userprofile% directory, but the program directory may be on read-only media. This is no problem in VistaPE, since we know exactly where the %userprofile% will wind up and it's always writable with FBWF. In other projects, it's a little more tricky, and it's up to the user to ensure that there's an appropriate writable direcotry.

I've included the FireFTP, BugMeNot, FoxMarks, TabMix Plus, and FireBug addons. It will copy pretty much all of your settings (including FireFTP settings) if you point it at your settings directory. It is set not to use any disk cache.

Version 2:
  • Updated to Firefox 3.03.
  • Added loader to copy settings to %userprofile% instead of relying on Forefox to do it from the defaults directory. Source included.
  • Updated Firebug and FireFTP to current versions.
  • Removed IETab extension; did not work.
  • Added FoxMarks extension. Sorry, I don't know how to make it log in. Maybe it's in your cookies.
  • Added registry settings (thanks, dera) to register URLMon so downloads work. I used the registry settings so it's not (or less) dependent on the existance of other scripts.

Version 3:
  • Added TabMix Plus extension
  • Updated FireFTP and FireBug
  • Now copies user.js from your settings

Hi JonF;

I dont like firefox, i am an opera fun,
but I like to support,

There is writeable %userprofile% folder with livexp in ramdrive (%userprofile%=B:\Documents and Settings\Default User)
so why not make a firefox starter?
sth like

if exist %userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini goto vistape
7za x "ffprofilejonfprepared.7z" -y -o"%userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla"
start firefox.exe
exit
:vistape
start firefox.exe
exit

anyway, here is my trials with livexp
first i try to start firefox without adding personal profile, it didnt work

second, i showed the location of folder as you described, didnt work

third, i copy my %userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla folder manually to ramdrive as i described in firefox starter, didnt work (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .

i hope these info help (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/smart.gif)

ps: i have fbwf enabled too.

dera,

yep i tried bootsdi to follow your advice, but i like createiso+fbwf more for trials.

anyway, it is sth else that stops ff3 work on livexp, ff2 works fine.
to make a 2nd trial i download portable versions of ff2 and ff3, extracted them from these links.
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...lease_id=614860
than put them to livexp (with bootsdi + free space :>),
ff2 worked fine, so a simple script can be made with the file i put here.
ff3 crashed. (probably sth dependent dont exist)

you can get extracted files of ff2 and ff3 from here (default portable install):
http://lancelot.winbuilder.net/5F_utilitie...foxPortable2.7z
http://lancelot.winbuilder.net/5F_utilitie...foxPortable3.7z

Although extracting profile files to ramdisk and leaving main files on cd is a good idea, i dont plan to go further with ff3 as i am not a ff3 fun. Opera works much much better for me with various reasons. (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/smart.gif) It will be better for a ff3 fun to go further in writing/fixing ff3 script for livexp. Oh great, a firefox 3 script!! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

I work on a few machines during the day (one at work, two at home and one at school) that are also running a mix of OS's. Firefox has been the only practical way to bring some ease on my life when it comes to keep all my bookmarks updated on real time across these work machines.

No complaints about Opera, but this is such an indispensable addon that we use so often and firefox isn't surely the same without foxmarks: http://www.foxmarks.com/

Would be great to have it included on the script as option and also two boxes for configuring the username/password to setup our own account as default when starting it. Or maybe an even more advanced script capable of getting all the addons and respective settings that are installed on FF3 in case it is installed on your host machine.

This would rock! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/worship.gif)

Me too. But I have had more difficulty with Opera. I hope to apply what I learned in making this script to Oper.

I considered that ... and may yet do it.

Can you describe how it failed to work? Did Firefox not start, or did it start but not see the profile information, or what?

If you copy the profile information, you need a profiles.ini file in the Firefox subdirectory:

CODE
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/PE.User

whith the correct subdirectory name in the last line.

Optional addons is a big task, as is extracting settings from the host. And I don't see the latter being widely popular.

But including foxmarks with a usernam/password box (if required) is certinaly possible.

Does the script as posted work for you?

sorry for wrong advice of starter, you had already done it

when i try to start, mozilla folder created by ff3 under
B:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\
here are the files in it
http://lancelot.winbuilder.net/6F_ff3Sup/ff3info.rar

no profiles.ini under X:\Program Files\Firefox

i try to start it with "firefox -safe-mode"
but even the option screen
http://support.mozilla.com/tr/kb/img/wiki_...de%20Dialog.png
didnt come and again crashed.

with the link at desktop, or with firefox safe mode, "crash analyzer" window come and ff3 dont start.

i hope these help.

The script doesn't work well in LiveXP e.g. doesn't copy the profile files notplaces.sqlite cookies.sqlite etc.
probably the '%PE_Programs\...' make it
instead of %Target_prog%\...
But the main problem is not this. Somehow it crash in the LiveXP project.
After doubleclick the Firefox shortcut on the Desktop (Firefox doesn't open at all) got only this error message:
