Ingenious software engineering! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

A registry key is like a container which can hold a lot of information including sub-containers.
And if one uses such a container just to flag one value, it is wasting a lot of effort.

That means that I have to implement this joke in Reg2WBS, too! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)

I may add that the problem is, as always, due to humans (are the MS guys humans? (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) ), the whole idea of a "monolithic" (but divided in several files) + "runtime built" structures such as HKCU or CurrentControlSet is to say the least "bizarre", using an undocumented filesystem-like structure in a binary format where even a single byte corruption may cause an unbootable system tops it, and even worse, another number of "good guys" like our friends at Symantec:
http://www.msfn.org/board/SP3-registry-cor...-b-t118290.html
ABUSE of this structure.

Good ol'.ini files....(IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

You are a dreamer!

Currently 'everybody' (maybe besides you and me) needs the latest version Billy the Door offers.
And he needs it inspite of
  • the latest version is known as buggy
  • the latest version needs more RAM as he has
But that gives the user the possibility to buy more RAM which
  • he currently does not need
  • needs for the new UNNEEDED update
Who now says that Billy the Door is not clever?

BTW: Who needs a recovery CD based on Vista?
A CD based on XP can do the same.
I do not compare Build issues XP <> Vista!

That's the reason that got me using Ubuntu in the first place.. (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I can still play with windows on a nice little box but it no longer orders what I can run or not.

I thought a XP based recovery CD can't access a Vista System. Has this been 'fixed' in the mean time?

You can read/write to a Vista disk from LiveXP with some limitations; you can access Users - yours, Default and Public, so getting stuff from your desktop, windows, program files etc. is no problem but you can't access ALL users even if you're the only user and UAC is OFF! I don't know if this is different from a VistaPE boot but I will check next time I have a chance (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

it should be this:
