I convert that to:

0x3, "Microsoft\WBEM\PROVIDERS\Performance","Performance Data"

which pebuilder writes as a reg_binary value with one byte of value 0.

If its written as:

0x1, "Microsoft\WBEM\PROVIDERS\Performance","Performance Data"

then pebuilder will write the value with an empty null terminated string of one byte. So I don't think there is much difference in the two.

Ok no problem (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/character32.gif)

Updated version uploaded ( 1.1.0.7 / 2.1.0.7 ). No idea why I converted a binary value to reg none.

Link updated in first post.

This Reg file

QUOTE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\CWShredder]

converted to
CODE
[Process]
hive_load,HKU
regadd,0x0,"TrendMicro\CWShredder"
hive_unload

I fixed this way:
CODE
hive_load,HKU
reg_add,0x0,"%reg%\TrendMicro\CWShredder"
hive_unload

@paraglider!

As you helped me a lot last days with improving Reg2WBS, I try to help you here.

My question, why at all translate such empty keys?

Imagine:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\KEY1]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\KEY1\KEY2]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\KEY1\KEY2\KEY3]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\KEY1\KEY2\KEY3,MyValue,hello]

It is only necessary to translate the last line to WB Script code, because WinBuilder creates the complete path.

Or is there any reason in a PE just to have an empty key?

Peter

The answer is it depends. Its possible a program depends just on a key being present not a value. There must have been a reason why a program install created the empty keys in the first place.

You are correct though that there is no actual need to create intermediate registry keys only the last one as long as winbuilder will create the intermediate keys if they don't exist.

CWShredder needs an empty key for "accept license agreement". Probably a rare way to do that.

Ingenious software engineering! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

A registry key is like a container which can hold a lot of information including sub-containers.
And if one uses such a container just to flag one value, it is wasting a lot of effort.

That means that I have to implement this joke in Reg2WBS, too! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/frusty.gif)
