Please re-read what has already been posted, sum up:
  1. it CANNOT do anything during boot ONLY once the OS is loaded (maybe, and I mean maybedubbio.gif) , and specifically the OS should be a Windows one - probably of the NT family only unsure.gif

Sorry. My Italian knowledge is limited with "Senta, cameriere, due gelati da due Euro, per favore".
But Google helped me a bit to understand your links.

So I'm very frustrated that my great idea is not new, and there is no chance to earn money with it.

Just very IMHO:

Tomorrow I'm going to offer a new hardware part to use in cars:

It replaces the tube connecting the fuel tank with the carburetor / injection unit.

It has the same size like the existing one.
It has the same appearence like the existing one.

BUT: It has a built in magic magnetic power.
And this magnetic power will cause that the fluence of the fuel is consolidated to an optimum, and therefore your car will need much less fuel, compared with the standard tube.

I'm going to offer this in the WEB:

Billions of intelligent people will laugh. But thousands (maybe millions) of less intelligent people will order.

And I become a rich man!

QUOTE (Galapo @ Jun 16 2010, 02:38 PM) *
%TargetWOW64% is most needed for CAPI. It is used to determine if a program is compatible with PE architecture and/or existance of wow64.

Because %TargetWOW64% is a variable in current existance, no need to create %x8664% variable which does exactly the same thing.

Regards,
Galapo.

?????
Search for "Set,%TargetWOW64%" in LiveXP, nativeEX_barebone, nativeEx_Win7, VistaPE, Win7RescuePE:
CODE
Suchen nach: Set,%TargetWOW64%
LiveXP\Basic\Build\0 - OnProjectRun.script(95): Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%,PERMANENT
LiveXP\Basic\Build\5 - WOW64_Basic.Script(45): If,%Enable_WoW64_CheckBox%,Equal,False,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%,PERMANENT
LiveXP\Basic\Build\5 - WOW64_Basic.Script(48): Set,%TargetWOW64%,x86,PERMANENT
LiveXP\Basic\Build\Common_Api.script(546): If,Not,EXISTVAR,%TargetWOW64%,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%

And I have it in my projects by Common LiveXP API:
CODE
nativeEx_barebone\Basic\Build\Common_ApiEx.script(547): If,Not,EXISTVAR,%TargetWOW64%,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%
nativeEx_Win7\Common_ApiEx.script(546): If,Not,EXISTVAR,%TargetWOW64%,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%
VistaPE-CAPI\Base\Common_Api.script(547): If,Not,EXISTVAR,%TargetWOW64%,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%

EDIT: IMHO %TargetWOW64% is not really an "All Projects' property". It is a LiveXP property given as a "non-refusable-present" to other projects.
Sorry that I do not agree to use %TargetWOW64% in PEFactory.

QUOTE (Galapo @ Jun 15 2010, 11:23 PM) *
Hi Peter,

I made a mistake. It should have been:

CODE
[nativeEx_barebone]
If,Not,ExistVar,%TargetWOW64%,Set,%TargetWOW64%,%SourceArch%,PERMANENT
...

That's because %TargetWOW64% can be set by another script, ie when wow64 exists under a 64-bit PE.

%TargetWOW64% is used in VistaPEcapi, Leopard, Win7PE, Win7PESE, Win7Rescue, LiveXP. I know of one exception: nativeEx. I think it is better if you use an already existing used thoughout other projects, rather than forcing the use of a new nativeEx variable that is essentially duplicating function.

Regards,
Galapo.

Bold in the quote made by me.

Thanks, Galapo. This again proofs that nativeEX_??? projects are the only projects which claim and perform "Take everything from the source CD only".
No cross-links, no additional defines etc.

BTW: I'm rather familar with Win7RescuePE, and therefore I have to contradict.
The ONLY references to %TargetWOW64% seem to be a remainder of a copy of a copy of ...
CODE
History14a=Lancelot %SourceArch% %TargetWOW64% lines added to be compatible to new generation apps scripts that contain both x86 and x64 executables/dll etc. (ps: Win7RescuePE is a 32bit project, as a result both values are x86)

and
CODE
%TargetWOW64%=x86

For me, currently it is not explainable, how a Lancelot's change came into a Joshua's project.
That reminds me on an old pasch's post "strange admin behaviour" ...

Excuse me as Dinosaur programmer:
When an app defines a variable and never uses the value of that variable (I call it WOM Write Only Memory):
Does the app really intend to WORK with that variable?
Maybe we here have the same programmer's different level like in the famous case "WinBuilder must be able to change the value of a constant (%ISOFile%)".

I understand that it seems to be difficult to propagate a "strict and clean package" here. The reactive lobby is too powerful.

Allow me to do further development of PEFactory on nativeEx_Win7 / Win7RescuePE only. That makes it much easier for me.
And that also closes my initial question for comments, suggestions, etc.

In my host I also let work nativeEX_barebone with PEFactory. But since I'm declared as idiot, nativeEx_barebone is my private enjoyment and not presented to the publish.
Therefore: Do not worry about VistaPEcapi, Leopard, Win7PE, Win7PESE, Win7Rescue, LiveXP. They all can work like before!

Peter

Download WinBuilder to an empty directory.
Use the "Download" icon in the upper right.
Download LiveXP.
Define the path to your XP source CD and click the blue "Play" triangle in the upper middle.
Usually that should bring you into an emulator playing your just created PE.

As an alternity: Use the very good tutorial by amalux: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...ost&p=30754

Good luck!

I do not understand your problem.

LiveXP is one of the "Standard Projects" you can download and build.

And after Build you have LiveXP ISO and can burn it (you even can include the 'Burn' in the Build).

If your problem depends on the fact that you cannot build LiveXP because you do not have the source CD, we cannot help.

boot-land.net is not a WAREZ site!

To me, there seems some redundancy here. Your new variable %x8664% seems to do the same thing as existing %TargetWOW64%. Currently, %TargetWOW64% is used by other projects except nativeEx, so no need to introduce another variable.

Thanks for your hints!

You are nearly right! In several projects %x8664% is the same as %SourceArch%!
IMO there are also redundances between %SourceArch% and %TargetWOW64%. That is the reason for nativeEx NOT to use %TargetWOW64%.

I am not sure that ALL existing projects have %TargetWOW64% defined.
And because the PEFactory is intended to "make no assumptions about definitions in the parent project", I created the "redundant" variable.
CODE
Set,%x8664%,%SourceArch%,PERMANENT

QUOTE (Galapo @ Jun 15 2010, 01:21 PM) *
Also, new variable %ProjectType% seems to do the same thing as existing %API_TYPE%. Currently, %API_TYPE% is either set by api itself or, better, if project sets it at script.project as is mostly the case. So no need again to introduce another variable, as %API_TYPE% has been existing on api for a long time now.

No, that's different! Inside PEFactory there is distinguished between:

XP > %ProjectType%=1
Vista > %ProjectType%=2
Win7 > %ProjectType%=4

Additionally: It is unbelievable, but there exist projects not using the API, e.g. nativeEX_BSOR.
Here %ProjectType%=8 is much better understandable than %API_Type%=<what?>

Since SUN is bought by Oracle, there are some changes in the VirtualBox software.

In "Program Files", Registry etc. "Sun" is replaced by "Oracle".

I did according changes in VirtualBox.Script.

But there is one item left, which prohibits networking in a VBox initiated by VirtualBox.Script:

The commands "VBoxManage list hostifs", "VBoxManage list hostonlyifs" and "VBoxManage list bridgedifs" now all return NOTHING. Therefore VirtualBox.Script has no opinion to which NIC it should connect.

Therfore:

When you want to use networking in a PE emulated by VirtualBox.Script VBox, use the latest "Sun" version 3.1.8.

I'm working on the issue but currently I have no opinion whether there is a workaround for the VBox bug.

As explained, that's not necessarily a problem with LiveXP, just that PEFactory can't cover all the options without additional development on PEFactory.

After the nativeEx_barebone theme is closed for me (The 'Main Customer' LiveXP is not able or refuses to update to WB 081 RC1 / 082):

What do you think is my goal for the next time? smart.gif

Currently I'm in the last tests to let "Vista PE Capi" project (by JonF) work with PEFactory.

Thanks, sbaeder, for your comments, concerns and ideas! thumbup.gif

Similar concerns and ideas caused me to develop this package.

The "package" should really be totally independent from the project. The project author only has to do one thing: Thell the package some fundamental values:
(current "state of art":)
CODE
Run,%BootManagerScript%,%ProjectTitle%

[nativeEx_barebone]
Set,%x8664%,%SourceArch%,PERMANENT
Set,%ProjectType%,1,PERMANENT
Set,%BootTMP%,NIL,PERMANENT
Set,%WimApp%,NIL,PERMANENT

[nativeEx_Win7]
Set,%x8664%,x86,PERMANENT
Set,%ProjectType%,4,PERMANENT
Set,%BootTMP%,%ProjectTemp%\boot.tmp,PERMANENT
Set,%WimApp%,NIL,PERMANENT

[VistaPE_CAPI_v.12_(RC1b_common_API)]
Set,%x8664%,x86,PERMANENT
Set,%ProjectType%,2,PERMANENT
Set,%BootTMP%,%ProjectTemp%\boot.tmp,PERMANENT
IniRead,%ProjectInfo%,VistaInfo,Imagex,%WimApp%

Because this is still in beta stage, maybe some other variable definitions may become necessary.

Tomorrow I'll publish a redesigned nativeEx_Win7 using the package.

BTW: It is already on the server and can be downloaded. But please allow me not to give a "preface of explanations, how to use" right now.

Peter

BTW2: e.g. the "Grub" issue is respected by adding a predefined / built menu.lst

I have one U3 and never used it's abilities (It was only VERY expensive).
It came from the time when I did not have had success with booting from USB (That was my 15 years old BIOS).
And the clever salesman told me that I have to use an U3 ...

Now I use it new formatted - as a stupid usual pen.
(After copying an U3-Restore batch anywhere. But I think that in some time I do not find the "Anywhere" any more ...)

My (as author of nativeEx_Win7) reply:

I cannot add anything to what patsch told.

Just for the record:
I decided for Win7RecuePE as "Deliverer", because at the time of decision (and still now, inspite of Joshua's long inactivity) Win7RescuePE is a well structured project w/o "addons to the addon to the addon ..."
Instead of Win7RescuePE the choosen "Home" project could have been any other suited Win7 project, e.g. Multi7 of yahoouk.

(Long time ago... What's reality now ...)

So: Try to be happy with the abilities of nativeEx_Win7, and try to make best of adding apps of your choice!

Thanks for your comment!

I simultaniously agree and disagree infomilies10.gif

GUI options which some members call "Useful", confuse other members.

It is not so easy to find a suited compromise between the two sides.
