Hi Capable smile.gif

If I understand your question, you can add all the programs you want anytime without rebuilding if they're portable, otherwise, afaik you need to rebuild from scratch. Any portables you add to ppApps folder will be recognised on next boot (or refresh), no additional work is needed wink.gif

WOW ,

it means you made ppAppsGenPE workable in Win7 ?

isn't what we discussed few months ago ?

congrats if you have done it. it is really a big step . ( by the way , are you planning on integrating PECMD along with your win7 project , ? if yes , then let me know if you need any help) .

Hi maanu smile.gif

Yes, ppApps working well, some programs need adjustment for full support in LiveXP and W7 but that's in the works. PECMD is fully utilized in the scripts and works great. Thanks again maanu for for all your help and guidance, I couldn't have done it without you wink.gif

Just tell it where your W7 source is and build, if you put unpacked drivers (sub-folders OK) in 'Drivers' at the root of some drive, drvload will try to install them but it's optional. You can also include drivers in the build if you want, see PENetwork script for example. If you want to burn the ISO to CD when done or setup on UFD etc. there's options for that in 'Finalize - Create ISO/UFD', all other internal settings can be left as they are for now. Builds fine on an XP or W7 host, just supply the W7 source in either case, no WAIK or anything else is required.

The best way to test the ISO is to boot from HDD (faster and saves CD's), let me know if you need help wink.gif

Oh, you'll see a "0 Shortcuts Installed" window briefly, it just means you didn't supply any portable app's for it to load, this is optional and you can read about adding portable app's here in 'Adding Portable Apps to Your PE!', works the same as in LiveXP.

Hi kickarse smile.gif

Yes, tested in this build here (under development) using full Win7 source. Currently, unpacked drivers are imported from a 'Drivers' folder at the root of any drive and installed by drvload.exe. I'm hoping to do something like this with your new tool if possible; let me know what you think wink.gif

Better to wait for your retail XP (you don't need the WAIK), if you download and build a PE (like the ones described here), chkdisk and other helpful tools are included, you will also have a nice GUI to browse around and check/backup files etc. All you need is the XP source and the downloaded project, that's it.

Hi Lebaron smile.gif

There are a number of good uninstall utilities that can be used from PE, CCleaner, Revo etc. I prefer the portable versions described here, all work well from LiveXP (even on Vista/W7 machines) but if you need a Win7PE with portable apps support let me know wink.gif

If all else fails, there's always Dell Factory Restore (wipes all data) which puts you back to when you first turned on the PC. Usually Ctrl+F11 at post (Dell logo) or possibly F8 for advanced options, read more here. Good luck.

Hi yundm smile.gif

I am currently booting a Win7PE ISO from UFD (or HDD) by adding the following to my grub menu.lst:
QUOTE
title W7PEX - ISO
find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /W7PEX.ISO
uuid ()
map /W7PEX.ISO (0xff) || map --mem /W7PEX.ISO (0xff)
map --hook
root (0xff)
chainloader (0xff) || chainloader (0xff)/bootmgr

Hope that helps wink.gif

Hi ChunkDog, welcome smile.gif

You need to be specific and focus on one build/one issue till hopefully resolved before moving to next build/next issue. Which project of mine did you have an issue with? Any changes made from the way it downloaded? In my builds, you don't need to 'choose WimBoot to finalize and create an iso', it's setup that way by default.

QUOTE (ChunkDog @ Apr 8 2010, 04:30 PM) *
The issue I'm having is the ISO created boots fine in a virtual machine, but doesn't boot on physical machines
How are you booting the ISO, grldr+menu.lst? If so, please post contents of menu.lst and boot.ini for review.

QUOTE (ChunkDog @ Apr 8 2010, 04:30 PM) *
I try the CD on. Now some machines will boot just fine, others will not. I'm baffled.
What happens on machines that don't boot? Do you get a RAM image loading progress? BSOD? Error? Be specific as possible.

QUOTE (ChunkDog @ Apr 8 2010, 04:30 PM) *
I'm building from a fully updated Windows XP Pro install, and using an XP Pro SP2 source.
Retail SP2 or OEM? Slipstreamed or factory disc? Full or nLited? CD or copied to folder on HDD?

The bad news: why does my own build not work? confused1.gif Do you have any idea?

Hi Xander,

I saw my name come up so I guess I need to say something here rolleyes.gif

Do the following to convert any of my builds to non-bootsdi.

1) Run a freshly downloaded (untouched) project and change nothing except the following:

2) In Finish -> 2 Create Image section, select Create ISO instead of WimBoot or BootSDI.
Attached Image

3) Because you will not have a writable system drive, in Basic -> !WBManager -> Define Fundamentals, change 'Settings' Drive to RAM Drive.
Attached Image

That's it, run the project as is and make sure there's no issue before adding/updating any scripts or making changes of any kind.

The reason (Lancelot's) official build works is because it's setup for non-bootsdi by default whereas mine are setup for WimBoot by default.

Sorry I got in on this late, from your last PM it seemed you had this issue worked out and I've been very busy with trying to get ppAppsGen working in Win7PE so I'm not reading the forum as much these days. Anyway, hope that helps wink.gif
