Wouldn't it be nice if there was place we could go for clear simple examples of script syntax like here or to ask questions about it like here? There's no need for a 'test plan' if syntax rules are known, results are reproducible and clear documentation exists for it usage.

VirtualBox 3.1.4 in LiveXP w/Autosave

Nice thing about it, it saves your settings between boots (what a concept). Requires a writable PE (BootSDI/WimBoot), adds 20-40MB to WimBoot image depending on options selected. See tutorial for more info on LiveXP with WimBoot wink.gif

saves your setup exactly as you last left it in PE smart.gif

Portable Apps in LiveXP Made Simple and Fun!

Thanks to Soporific we have ppAppsGenPE.exe which makes it possible to have all your portables added to PE's Start menu at boot up or when refreshed in PE. You can read more about the utility and how it works here.

The script makes full use of ppAppsGenPE and also lets you launch ASuite portable apps menu from the system tray if preferred. Both methods for launching portable apps work great in LiveXP and both have some advantages over the other so best to have the option to use either or both at any given run.

The magic here is that any or all of your portable apps can be added to the Start menu (or system tray menu) at any time before or while booted in PE! Any apps added to your base folder (even while booted in PE) will appear in the Start menu just as if they were scripts included in the original build everytime ppAppsGenPE is refreshed (just takes a few seconds). This can be done with a single click from the quick launch or from the Start menu shortcut.

Anything that can be done in a script can be done for a portable app with ppAppsGenPE, including registry input, create directories in PE and copy files, download on the fly etc. Multiple shortcuts for each program folder can be put to whatever directory you want in the Start menu; created on the fly even in PE.

The ASuite launcher also has some nice features like portable My Documents, Pictures, Music & Video etc. that can be carried around with your portable apps and a fully customizable menu launcher that doubles as an independent 'pen suite' you can use in regular Windows without LiveXP.

I've already got hundreds of portable apps I'm using in PE and the LiveXP is always the same lite, fast booting build regardless of which programs and tools I bring along. The portables will be found by ppAppsGenPE when LiveXP boots or when refreshed at anytime regardless of which drive letter is assigned, so they can be on a UFD, USB-HD, fixed drive, another CD/DVD or on the same disk your booting from, doesn't matter and large updates/downloads for AV progs etc. are done on the separate drive if wanted so not a big hit on your RAM allowance in PE. OK, enough for now - read all about it and get builds with and without media support for testing along with some sample portable apps packages to see how it all works in the tutorial here under 'Adding Portable apps in LiveXP' - just scroll down to the blue text section. I'm still working on it but everything you need is there - have fun! wink.gif
