What I recommend, when there are problems like this is simply to "zero out" the first 100 sectors of the device, which cover MBR+Hidden sectors + bootsector of first partition + some more filesystem sectors, using a hex/disk editor or dsfo/dsfi.

Once you have downloaded the DSFOK package:
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware/
unzip the fles to a subdir, open a DOS prompt in it then run:
QUOTE
fsz zeroes.000 51200
dsfi \\.\Physicaldriven 0 0 zeroes.000


where n is the number of the hard disk, Physicaldrive0 is first (boot) disk.
