Video redraw acceleration trick
If you think that in large resolutions(1024x768 and more) screen redrawing is slow here is the solution:

1) for vbemp.sys -
Hive : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Vbemp\Device0 orHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Vgasave\Device0 in legacy mode
Key : Acceleration.Level
Value : (REG_DWORD) = 5

2) for vga.sys
Hive : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Vgasave\Device0
Key : Acceleration.Level
Value : (REG_DWORD) = 5

Note 1: This trick works in Windows2000/XP/2003. But NOT in Windows NT 4 and others.
Note 2: For "normal accelerated drivers" like made by AMD-ATI, Intel, nVidia and others Acceleration.Level=5 key SLOWDOWNS redraw. Do not set it. In this case, optimal setting is Acceleration.Level=0 or when this key is not exist.

Windows NT Service Pack integration (slipstreaming) toolkit
SlipStreaming ToolKit (or SSKIT) for Microsoft Windows NT™ 4.0

Where to get it:
andadditionalmscab.exe utility -
And how to use it:
sskit.exe C:\INSTALL\SP6\ D:\I386\ C:\INSTALL\OUT\

  • C:\INSTALL\SP6\ is an expanded ServicePack6a location (sp6_i386.exe -x)
  • D:\I386\ is an original WindowsNT 4.0 \I386 directory location
  • C:\INSTALL\OUT\ is a directory where to place modified installation. It must exists!
NB: Note that you MUST have mscab.exe( ) somewhere in your PATH or sskit cannot work properly!!!

After that you may overwrite \I386\ dir content with \OUT\ dir content and get an automaticly SlipStreamed NT4 installation.

But remember, that after you installed NT4 onto your hard drive YOU MUST apply official SP6a to make necessary registry and security changes (I cannot preload them with sskit, sorry).

ScitechSoft SNAP Graphics accelerated video driver + WindowsPE
If your need Full Hardware 2D Acceleration (DDRAW, fast redraw, scrolling), Video overlay -
you may try ScitechSoft SNAP Graphics.

They made this package for NT4/W2K/XP/2003 (and Windows95/98/ME [ONLY personal version may be requested for Win9x], OS/2, Linux :) ).

Win2K/XP version: (Trial21day)
WinNT4 version: (Trial21day)

Personal versions may be requested here ( ) after
FREE registration. I use this feature sometimes to compare my driver with ScitechSoft's.

Support of 2D in my driver is limited only by Write Combining (USWC) feature.
USWC feature add some speedup (about 20% increase) in WinQuake
"timedemo demo1" test,
and about 200%-300% in memtime.exe test (from Microsoft DirectX5 SDK).

it is also possible to integrate SNAP into WinPE.

you need from installed version:

io32.sys - to the root dir of your disk (CD, flash...)
sddnt.inf - inf\
sddnt.dll - system32\
sddnt.sys - system32\drivers\
sddhelp.sys - system32\drivers\
directory system32\snap\*.* copy to system32\snap \

sddhelp.sys must be booted first.

txtsetup.sif sample code
signature="$Windows NT$"

_x = %cdname%,%cdtagfile%,,""
_1 = %cdname%,%cdtagfile%,,""

pci= pci.sys
acpi = acpi.sys
isapnp = isapnp.sys
acpiec = acpiec.sys
ohci1394 = ohci1394.sys
sddhelp= sddhelp.sys;;; I ADD THIS LINE

and sddnt.sys must be loaded after it.
