Short time-out

I'll be offline during the next weeks due to Christmas vacation time and also because I'll be trying to study hard to pass with good grades on the semester exams at the end of January - 5 of these exams to be more precise and this includes learning C language from scratch and even some crispy assembler instructions (never really liked C that much but maybe this becomes a good reason to finally learn).

My personal messenger was disabled to keep away the temptation of visiting these addictive forums instead of dedicating time to books and I won't certainly check my mailbox very often so it could pass a long time until I answer back.. (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

In the meanwhile - wb 074 was made available and I hope to return in mid-February when these studies are finished (until the end of 2nd semester near the summer vacations).

I'll surely miss everyone here.

Wish me luck! (IMG:../forums/style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif)

[project] uxp

This project will create a customized multiboot XP Install DVD.

Steps that were automated:
  • Copy all files from a Windows Source onto to a target folder
  • Add BCDW to be used a multiboot manager
  • Create in unattended mode a 5Mb sized WinRoot project and add to target folder
  • Create in unattended mode a full sized 300Mb LiveXP project and add to target folder
  • Process nLite addons found inside a sub-folder and attach them to a nLite profile
  • Process WUD (Windows Updates Downloader) update files and attach them to the nLite profile
  • Launch unattended nLite and customize the Windows source found on the target folder
  • Launch DriverPacks and silently add all selected driverpacks inside the target folder windows folder.
  • Create a ISO with mkisofs
  • Launch this ISO image with VirtualBox
  • Burn ISO image on DVD

  • nLite is not included and should be installed on your computer before running this project
  • Spaces in path name are not fully supported - use a simple path like "c:\uxp" for example
  • You need a maximum of 4Gb disk space free on disk.
  • Windows XP SP2 PRO Install CD or files copied to a folder on disk

A full step-by-step gallery of screenshots can be found here:

Possible bugs:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This project will take around 30~50 minutes until it is completed - all steps should be done in complete unattended mode without requiring any user interaction.

- Initial boot screen

- LiveXP environment

- Windows XP Install

If needed - each script can be executed individually by pressing on the "green" play button

The download package is sized in nearly 600Mb because it includes all driverpacks available and around 300Mb worth of freeware applications - it wasn't meant to be light - just a big and heavy XP install that I could use for everyday OS install on new machines without need to worry about drivers or installing some of my favourite programs.

List of included addons (programs that are installed when the XP setup is running):
  • ProgramAddons
  • ProgramAddons DriveImage XML
  • ProgramAddons FileZilla
  • ProgramAddons Firefox
  • ProgramAddons Java Runtime Environment 6 Update
  • ProgramAddons Notepadplus
  • ProgramAddons OpenOffice
  • ProgramAddons PuTTY
  • ProgramAddons
  • ProgramAddons RealVNC
  • ProgramAddons Recuva
  • ProgramAddons Spybot Search _ Destroy
  • ProgramAddons Tiny Hexer
  • ProgramAddons TUGZip
  • ProgramAddons
  • XPizeDarkside21.exe
This project allowed me to build a 1,4Gb XP Install DVD that I burned onto a 8cm mini-DVD/rw and carry everywhere to use whenever needed.

Please remember that this is the initial beta release and I would really appreciate any feedback regarding this project in order to make things work better - thank you in advance for your comments about it.

Universal Viewer (ATViewer)
Universal Viewer (ATViewer) is an advanced file viewer with wide range of formats supported. Implemented view modes and corresponding file formats are:

* Text, Binary, Hex, Unicode: any files, of unlimited size (even 4Gb+ sizes are allowed)
* RTF/UTF-8: RTF and UTF-8 encoded texts
* Image: all general graphics formats: BMP JPG GIF PNG TGA TIFF... plus all formats supported by IrfanView/XnView external viewers
* Multimedia: all formats supported by MS Windows Media Player: AVI MPG WMV MP3...
* Internet: all formats supported by MS Internet Explorer: HTML XML DOC XLS...
* Plugins: all formats supported by Total Commander Lister plugins

Application is fully Unicode-compatible and can be integrated into Windows Explorer's context menu, so there is no problem to call it from anywhere in Explorer: right-click a file and select the "Universal Viewer" item. It can also be integrated into other popular file managers.

Generally, Universal Viewer is an application similar to Total Commander Lister. But, comparing to Lister, it has some major advantages:

* Full support for Unicode filenames
* Built-in functions of several popular plugins: images, multimedia, webpages view
* Support for multiple codepages: ANSI, OEM, EBCDIC, ISO, KOI8, Mac etc.
* Toolbar, status bar, other interface improvements
* Auto-reloading of file on changing, "Follow tail" option
* Displaying of non-printable characters
* Combined Unicode/Hex mode (call Unicode mode twice)
* More modern RegEx search library

In the Lister plugins section you will find the list of rather good Lister plugins to use in conjunction with UV. These plugins are developed by 3rd parties and are not included into UV installation.

License: available as freeware and shareware versions, details...

System requirements: Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista

Additional requirements: MS Internet Explorer 4.0+

There are two application versions available:

1. Universal Viewer (ATViewer) Free - light version:

* License is freeware, and source code is open.
* Doesn't contain several functions (listed below).

2. Universal Viewer (ATViewer) Pro - fully featured version:

* License is shareware. You can use the application during a test period of 15 days. Following this period, if you wish to continue to use application, you must register.
* Contains additional functions:
o Option "Show navigation panel"
o Option "Show hidden files"
o Option "Resolve .lnk files targets"
o Command "File -- Rename"
o Command "File -- Copy to folder"
o Command "File -- Move to folder"
o Command "View -- Multimedia -- Fit window to image"

Sometimes you amaze me with your ability to focus so well on so many things, few people display this gift the way you do.
