It seems like there is a VERY good tool for detecting USB devices, and expecially USB sticks and their controllers.

Here:
http://www.mydigit.cn/read.php?tid=25890
http://www.mydigit.cn/chipgenius.htm

QUOTE
ChipGenius is a section of USB equipment chip model examination tool, may inquire the U plate, MP3/MP4 automatically, reads the card, the motion hard disk and so on master control chip model, the manufacturer, the brand, and provides the correlation data downloading address. Certainly may also inquire USB equipment's VID/PID information, the equipment name, the series number, the equipment edition and so on.

http://bbs.mydigit.cn/mytool/chipgenius.rar
http://www.mydigit.cn/mytool/ChipGenius.rar

The app works in English allright. smile.gif

But one of the most interesting features it has is hardly (read NOT) usable by not Chinese speaking people.

The app comes with a sort of database of known "Production Tools" or "Manufacturer Tools" and, if the chip is properly identified, and corresponding utility has been found, it gives a link to the appropriate one.

Unfortunately links are on the same server and need (I think unsure.gif) to be logged in to be able to download the tool.

Could anyone try to contact the Author or Board owner and ask if there is a way boot-land can become a sort of "mirror" for the apps?

Or arrange some other ways as to make them available to non-Chinese speaking people?

jaclaz

P.S.:
WARNING: for non-Chinese speaking people. SOME, or maybe MOST, of the apps will however have a Chinese interface, and being potentially destructive tools think twice and thrice before attempting using any of them!

The ChipGenius.exe app is however perfectly safe even in the hands of "newbies".

USB Device Viewer 67.5KB (Microsoft, a bit old but working perfectly)
USBDeview 38.5KB (Nir Sofer)
QUOTE
Description
===========

USBDeview is a small utility that lists all USB devices that currently
connected to your computer, as well as all USB devices that you
previously used.
For each USB device, exteneded information is displayed: Device
name/description, device type, serial number (for mass storage devices),
the date/time that device was added, VendorID, ProductID, and more...
USBDeview also allows you to uninstall USB devices that you previously
used, and disconnect USB devices that are currently connected to your
computer.
You can also use USBDeview on a remote computer, as long as you login to
that computer with admin user.

@Oleg_II

I seem to miss your point. unsure.gif

There are several other utilities, like checkudisk:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...it&ie=UTF-8
http://www.wbj3000.com/checkudisk.rar

But they all miss a feature similar to this:

@all
link to Usbdeview:

Microsoft USBview.exe should be part of the WDDK, should be this one:

I didn't mean the program is bad. But if you have troubles using it you can use alternatives in English language without database, then go to this site and find needed information about producers: USB.ORG.
Then use, say, Google to find out the producer's site, go to his site (support section) and look for utilities.

Not an easy way but working wink.gif

Yep, BTW, FYI, this partly simplifies the "coupling"of Vid/Pid with producers:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=1659

though very often actual Vid/Pids are not accurate or correctly documented, see here:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=4577&st=9

and in most cases there is no docs/tools on the site that lead to the actual controller make and type.

The download link is down.

However, I have downloaded this before. Btw a working link is http://www.mympxplayer.org/tool-chip-geniu...9-am-df834.html

When I start the app I on XP SP3 I get an error http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6097/20...26154943gu6.png I am also not the only one with this error, someone else reported it http://www.mympxplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=9321

The same error is also on a fresh XP in VMware. Do I need some Chinese language pack or so?

No, it works allright for me (under Win2K). It's strange.

The "real" download page is here:
http://www.mydigit.cn/chipgenius.htm
http://www.mydigit.cn/mytool/chipgenius.rar
the other link was a somewhat English translation on the Forum, maybe it's the Forum that is offline right now.

The mentioned shoud be last version, with chips.wdb updated to 25/07/2008.

Have a look at it with Dependency Walker, the only "not default" file it uses appears to be MSVBVM60.DLL, all other files are "base" NT files. unsure.gif
